In a world where conflicts and wars have often been fueled by religious differences, a global peace organization, HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), has emerged as a beacon of hope. Under the leadership of Chairman Lee Man-hee, HWPL strives to end wars and establish lasting peace through initiatives like the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and religious harmony efforts.
Religious Dialogue: A Path to Peace
Statistics reveal that 70-80% of global
conflicts are rooted in religious differences. This highlights the critical
need for interfaith dialogue to promote understanding and cooperation. HWPL’s
groundbreaking initiative, the Comparative Scriptural Discussion, brings
together representatives from various faiths to compare their scriptures and
foster mutual respect. By focusing on commonalities and addressing
misunderstandings, participants break barriers and build bridges.
One notable supporter of HWPL’s efforts is Ven. Myung-an, the Chief Monk of Korea’s Yeolae Order of Buddhism. With a deep commitment to peace, he has actively participated in over 40 Comparative Scriptural Discussion, sharing profound insights into his experiences.
Transforming Perspectives Through
Dialogue
Ven. Myung-an confessed that, initially, he
was skeptical about the possibility of unity among diverse religious groups.
However, as he participated in the meetings, he began to understand the vision
behind HWPL’s efforts. He realized that many of his preconceived notions about
other religions, such as Islam and Christianity, were based on misconceptions.
Through open discussions grounded in their scriptures, he discovered that the
core principles of these religions—love, compassion, and peace—align with those
of Buddhism.
He shared that these meetings transformed
his relationships with other religious leaders. “They are no longer just imams
or pastors to me; they are like family,” he remarked. This transformation
extended beyond dialogue, as participants took collective action to support
each other’s communities.
A Ripple Effect of Peace
Ven. Myung-an’s commitment to HWPL’s vision
led him to organize peace-focused events at his temple. One such event, held in
2022, brought together over 100 participants, including religious leaders and
citizens, to advocate for unity and peace. He even invited fellow monks and
clergy to observe the Scripture Dialogue Meetings, inspiring them to join the
movement.
His dedication also extended to
humanitarian efforts, such as fundraising events for underprivileged
communities. These initiatives demonstrate how HWPL’s peace activities resonate
beyond dialogue, fostering tangible change in society.
Supporting the DPCW for Global Peace
Ven. Myung-an is also a strong advocate for
the DPCW, HWPL’s proposed international legal framework to end wars and promote
peace. He believes that articles like “Freedom of Religion” and “Religious
Harmony” in the DPCW are groundbreaking and essential. By supporting this
declaration, he emphasizes the importance of international cooperation to
address religious conflicts and build a culture of peace.
A Call to Action
Ven. Myung-an’s journey with HWPL serves as
an inspiration for all. He urges everyone, regardless of their background, to
join HWPL’s peace initiatives. He believes that with collective effort, a world
free of war is not just a dream but an achievable reality. “Let us be
ambassadors of peace and work together to create a harmonious world,” he
encourages.
HWPL’s work reminds us that peace begins
with understanding, and through sincere efforts, we can achieve a world where
humanity thrives as one family. Let’s unite under the banner of peace and take
part in this transformative movement. Together, we can make a difference.
I am so impressed by HWPL's activities. I truly hope that peace will be achieved in this land.
