The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Daejeon Branch held a heart-warming community event titled “Let’s Peace” on December 1 at the Jeongnim Warehouse Bonta Café in Daejeon. Designed to support vulnerable youth and promote a culture of peace, the event gathered more than 300 attendees — including local leaders, performers, volunteers, and citizens — showing the growing regional interest in peace education and community care.
The event was supported by the Korean Council for National Reunification (Daejeon Chapter) and Bonta Café, strengthening its role as a collaborative civic initiative.
Celebrating Peace Through Art and Community Support
The “Let’s Peace” event was organized in connection with IWPG’s annual Peace-Loving Art Competition, a global drawing contest that encourages children and youth to visualize peace through creativity. This year’s Daejeon event served a dual purpose:
-
Showcasing award-winning artworks from previous competitions
-
Raising support funds for socially disadvantaged youth in the local community
Attendees enjoyed a vibrant program including an art exhibition, charity concert, youth performances, and booths offering food and daily necessities for donation. The atmosphere was warm, lively, and filled with intergenerational participation — a reflection of IWPG’s mission to make peace accessible to all.
A Message of Hope for the Next Generation
IWPG Daejeon Branch Director Kim Hwa-jeong expressed her gratitude to all participants, noting the importance of nurturing peace awareness among children and teenagers.
“Helping our youth imagine and experience peace — instead of conflict and division — is deeply meaningful,” she said. “We hope for your continued support so that children can freely dream of peace through art next year as well.”
A North Korean defector performance team, attending as special supporters, also shared their motivation:
“We wanted to contribute to IWPG’s meaningful peace efforts, especially given the divided reality of the Korean Peninsula.”
Their participation added emotional resonance to the event, connecting peace efforts with lived experiences of division.
Peace Culture Shared Through Art
One of the most popular sections of the event was the exhibition of winning artworks from IWPG’s international drawing competition. These artworks — created by children around the world — conveyed themes of unity, hope, coexistence, and nonviolence. Visitors emphasized how the artworks helped them reflect on peace from a child’s perspective, calling the exhibition both inspiring and moving.
Proceeds from the event will be used to support:
-
The 8th Peace-Loving Art Competition in 2026
-
Local youth from vulnerable backgrounds
Through this initiative, IWPG Daejeon aims to ensure that peace education continues to reach children who need encouragement and support the most.
IWPG’s Global Mission for Peace
IWPG is an international women’s NGO registered with the UN ECOSOC and UN DGC, operating 115 branches across 122 countries and collaborating with more than 800 partner organizations worldwide. The organization is dedicated to:

The Daejeon “Let’s Peace” event reflects IWPG’s commitment to making peace a lived, everyday experience — not just a concept or slogan.
