Law Meets Education: IWPG and Equality Now Collaborate for MENA Peace

While the world was coloring 53 cities with the spirit of the "April 26 World Women’s Peace Day," IWPG was also taking significant steps in legal and institutional advocacy.

Recently, IWPG Global Branch 2 held a strategic online meeting with Naglaa Sarhan, the MENA Regional Legal Advisor for Equality Now and Coordinator of the HURRA Coalition, along with representatives from the Association of Egyptian Female Lawyers (AEFL).

Bridging Legal Reform and Grassroots Education

Equality Now, founded in 1992, is a global powerhouse focused on ending sexual violence, harmful practices like child marriage, and discriminatory family laws. During the meeting, Naglaa Sarhan emphasized a crucial point:

"Legal and policy changes are vital, but for them to truly function in society, they must be accompanied by citizen understanding and participation."

This is where IWPG’s strength shines. By integrating Women’s Peace Education (WPE) with legal advocacy, IWPG aims to ensure that institutional changes are not just words on paper, but lived realities in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.

The Synergy for Real Change

Seo-yeon Lee, Director of IWPG Global Branch 2, stated: "For legal changes to result in actual social transformation, field-based education and participation must go hand-in-hand. This discussion confirmed the potential for a complementary partnership based on our respective strengths."

By expanding its network within the MENA region, IWPG continues to prove that "Peace is not a theory, but a practice." Whether it's through community-based learning in South Korea or legal reform in Egypt, IWPG is building a world where women are safe, respected, and empowered.
