Mongolia’s School No. 109 Celebrates Completion of HWPL Peace Education Program
Mongolia is taking meaningful steps toward peace education, and one local school has become a model example. On October 17, School No. 109 in Ulaanbaatar’s Nalaikh District held a graduation ceremony for its 9th-grade Class 1 students, marking the successful completion of the HWPL Peace Education 12-lesson curriculum. The ceremony brought together 45 students, school officials, and honored guests to celebrate five months of steady learning and growth.
A Milestone in HWPL–Nalaikh Partnership
In early 2025, HWPL began formal cooperation with the Nalaikh District Lifelong Education Center. As part of this partnership, counselor Batbayar, affiliated with the center, implemented the full 12-lesson HWPL Peace Education curriculum for the 9th-grade class beginning in May 2025.
The curriculum emphasized self-reflection, emotional awareness, and building a culture of peace among students. Over several months, students engaged in hands-on activities such as:
-
Creating a “Peace Tree”
-
Participating in the “Heart to Heart” peace letter challenge
-
Practicing communication and empathy-building exercises
HWPL’s Mongolia Delegation also supported the program by providing gifts and prizes to enrich the educational experience.
Visible Transformation in the Classroom
Teachers and administrators noted that 9th-grade Class 1 had previously been considered one of the most disruptive and conflict-prone groups in the school. However, throughout the peace education program, students showed remarkable changes in behavior, communication, and cooperation.
During the ceremony, students proudly received their certificates and gifts from HWPL, expressing genuine joy over their accomplishments. Many attendees shared that the event was not only inspiring but deeply moving.
Expanding Peace Education Across Nalaikh
This graduation ceremony represents more than the end of a program—it signals the beginning of a broader peace initiative in Nalaikh District. The success of School No. 109 has strengthened support among educators and community leaders, laying the foundation for peace education to expand across the district in the coming years.
HWPL and the Nalaikh District Lifelong Education Center plan to continue developing programs that help Mongolian youth build empathy, resolve conflict peacefully, and cultivate a mindset that embraces coexistence.
