Youth Leaders in Fiji Build Media Skills to Amplify Peace Initiatives

Young people in Fiji are strengthening their role in peacebuilding—not only through action, but through storytelling.

Recently, youth leaders affiliated with the National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF) completed a specialized training program designed to enhance their skills in media, digital storytelling, and online content creation. The initiative reflects a growing recognition that youth-led peace efforts need strong communication tools to reach wider communities.

Strengthening Youth Voices Through the “Triple C” Project

The training, known as the “Triple C from Youth Rising for a Peaceful Blue Pacific” (Triple C Project), was conducted through collaboration between the National Youth Council of Fiji and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG).

Fifteen youth leaders participated in the workshop, which focused on practical skills such as:

• Digital storytelling for peace and social cohesion

• Creating online content using design and media tools

• Communicating youth initiatives effectively through social platforms

The program was delivered as part of IPYG’s Content Creator Course, a capacity-building initiative that supports young people in expressing their voices responsibly and creatively in the digital space.

From Community Action to Public Awareness

According to organizers, the Triple C Project was developed to address a common challenge faced by youth groups: while many young people are actively engaged in peacebuilding, environmental protection, and social initiatives, their work often remains unseen due to limited media capacity.

Through hands-on sessions, participants learned how to transform real community activities into meaningful stories. During the workshop, youth leaders produced card news, short videos, and online content centered on peace, environmental awareness, and social cohesion.

The training emphasized not only technical skills, but also confidence—helping participants see themselves as communicators who can inspire others through their experiences.

Regional and International Collaboration Behind the Initiative

Discussions leading to the Triple C Project began during the 11th World Peace Summit, held in South Korea and hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL). The summit provided a platform for youth organizations and global peace networks to explore practical ways of empowering young leaders.

The workshop in Fiji also included a special lecture by Jade Fun, a media studies faculty member from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. Her session, titled “The Attitude and Responsibility of Journalists,” highlighted the importance of ethics, accuracy, and responsibility in modern media environments.

Youth Empowerment as a Path to Sustainable Peace

Government representatives welcomed the initiative, noting that equipping young people with communication skills aligns with Fiji’s broader goals for peace and sustainable development.

Organizers shared hopes that participants will continue developing as content creators—moving from learners, to storytellers, and eventually to educators who can train other youth in their communities.

This training serves as a reminder that peacebuilding today is not only about taking action, but also about sharing stories that connect people, build understanding, and inspire participation.

By investing in youth voices and digital skills, Fiji’s young leaders are taking meaningful steps toward shaping a more peaceful and connected future.
