IWPG Global Region 11 has received national recognition in South Korea for its continued efforts to advance peace and global cooperation.
On December 12, IWPG Global Region 11 Director Sunhee Jang was awarded the World Peace Contribution Award at the 11th “Korean of the Year Awards” ceremony, held at the Korea Press Center in Seoul. The award was officially announced on December 16.
Recognizing Contributions to Peace and Society
The Korean of the Year Awards are held annually to honor individuals and organizations that have made meaningful contributions to national development and social progress across various fields. Among these honors, the World Peace Contribution Award is presented to those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts in promoting peace, preventing conflict, and strengthening international cooperation.
This year, the award committee recognized IWPG Global Region 11 for its sustained and practical peace initiatives, particularly through:
- Promoting long-term, sustainable peace activities
- Expanding global women’s peace network
- Spreading peace culture both in Korea and internationally
- Strengthening leadership through women’s peace education
Building Peace Through Global Collaboration
Director Sunhee Jang was especially acknowledged for expanding international cooperation and leading peace programs that translate ideals into action. Her work includes organizing peace initiatives, supporting international women leaders, and carrying out community-based campaigns that raise public awareness of peace.
Through these efforts, IWPG Global Region 11 has contributed to tangible progress in peacebuilding by connecting local communities with global peace movements.
A Shared Achievement
In her acceptance remarks, Director Jang emphasized that peace is not achieved by individuals alone.
“Peace becomes real only when everyone participates. This award represents the collective efforts of Global Region 11 and all those who have worked together throughout the year,” she said.
“We will continue cooperating with the international community to advance sustainable peace.”
An organizing committee representative also noted that Director Jang’s leadership serves as a strong example of Korea’s role in global peace efforts, expressing hope that the award would further enhance Korea’s international standing in peace leadership.
Continuing the Journey Toward Peace
This recognition highlights the growing impact of IWPG’s work and reinforces the importance of women-led peace initiatives on the global stage. IWPG Global Region 11 plans to continue expanding its partnerships and peace activities, building bridges across borders and communities.
