“Sign for Her” Campaign Arrives in Europe

HWPL Raises Awareness of Period Poverty at Rotterdam World Trade Center

The global movement to address period poverty took an important step forward as HWPL Netherlands launched its first European “Sign for Her” campaign event at the Rotterdam World Trade Center (WTC) on November 12. The initiative received strong public response, challenging the belief that period poverty is only an issue in developing regions and encouraging citizens to take meaningful action.

Bringing Period Poverty Into the Global Spotlight

“Sign for Her” is a global advocacy project led by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL). Based on the principles of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), the campaign highlights the human rights impact of period poverty and calls for international cooperation to protect women and girls.

The project first launched in Seoul this June and has since expanded to Gimpo, Lusaka (Zambia), Cheongju, and now Rotterdam, marking its first European outreach. Originally rooted in African regions such as Zambia and Malawi, the movement is now gaining support across the Netherlands and Belgium.

Public Engagement at the Rotterdam WTC

At the Rotterdam WTC booth, HWPL volunteers introduced visitors to the reality of period poverty and its effects on women and girls worldwide. Citizens were invited to write heartfelt messages of encouragement to women facing hygiene and dignity challenges.

One attendee expressed surprise that period poverty also exists within Europe, not only in developing countries. Some visitors even offered immediate donations, demonstrating a deep personal response to the campaign’s mission.

Isabel Silva, Program Coordinator at HWPL Netherlands, noted:

“People realized that period poverty is not just an issue in Africa. It is a reality for many women in Europe as well.
Watching citizens write messages to young girls showed how empathy creates real connection. ‘Sign for Her’ is not only about sanitary pads—it's about restoring dignity and peace in daily life.”

A Growing International Network

The “Sign for Her” initiative continues to strengthen cross-border solidarity:

  • In Zambia, HWPL worked with local NGO FDI to implement long-term solutions including:

    • distribution of reusable sanitary pads

    • peace education

    • awareness programs on children’s rights

  • Hygiene kits featuring the message “You are strong, worthy, and beautifully made” have become a symbolic part of the campaign, promoting dignity and confidence among young women.

With its expansion to Europe, the campaign aims to build a global community committed to ending period poverty and advancing the rights, safety, and well-being of women everywhere.

Why This Matters

Period poverty is not just a healthcare issue—it's a matter of equality, dignity, and human rights. HWPL’s European engagement demonstrates that social awareness, public empathy, and international cooperation can build a more peaceful and supportive world for women and girls.

As the campaign continues to grow, HWPL plans to expand its partnerships and engage more communities across the globe.
