and division, Iraq is discovering new pathways to harmony through the

Bridges in Iraq 🌍✨>
Peace Education in a Land of Diversity
HWPL’s peace education has gained a strong
foothold in Iraq, with universities like Halabja University, Koya University,
and Zakho University integrating HWPL’s peace curriculum into their educational
framework. The program has resonated deeply with educators, including Deyman
Zuhair Sami Zakshi, a lecturer at Zakho University and a dedicated HWPL peace
educator.
“Peace is more than the absence of conflict;
it’s about fostering harmony, forgiveness, equality, and compassion,” Zakshi
shared, reflecting on how HWPL’s peace education materials have shaped her
teaching philosophy.
Empowering Future Peacebuilders
Zakshi began her journey as a peace educator
in July 2022, after completing HWPL’s teacher training program. She now teaches
second-year natural science students, using HWPL’s curriculum to instill values
like empathy and mutual understanding.
“The students’ perspectives have shifted
positively,” Zakshi noted. “Their capacity for empathy and their willingness to
contribute to society have grown significantly.” She emphasized that HWPL’s
peace education equips students not just with knowledge but with the tools to
actively build a harmonious future.

Peace in Action
Transforming Education Through
Collaboration
HWPL’s curriculum was developed
collaboratively with Iraqi educators, ensuring it aligns with local cultural
and religious values, particularly in the Kurdistan region. This localization
process has been pivotal in fostering acceptance and enthusiasm among both
teachers and students.
Visionary Goals for Peace
Zakshi’s aspirations extend beyond the
classroom. She envisions establishing a peace monument in the Kurdistan region
as a symbol of unity and hope. She also plans to initiate an annual Peace Day
celebration and develop an online peace education program to connect students
globally.
“Peace is not a dream but a responsibility we all share,” Zakshi stated, reinforcing her commitment to creating a lasting culture of peace in Iraq and beyond.
A History of Resilience: Why Peace Education Matters
Iraq, a land rich in history and resources,
has faced centuries of conflict. From ancient wars to modern-day struggles, the
region’s turbulent past underscores the urgent need for sustainable peace.
HWPL’s peace education offers a transformative approach, teaching individuals
how to resolve conflicts peacefully and build a culture of tolerance and
understanding.
The Iraqi experience is a testament to the
power of education in driving societal change. As Zakshi and other educators
work tirelessly to spread peace, HWPL’s initiative continues to inspire hope
for a brighter, more unified future.
Join the Movement for Peace
HWPL’s peace education in Iraq is more than a
program—it’s a movement that empowers individuals to become ambassadors of
peace in their communities. Let’s support HWPL’s mission and advocate for a
