From Historical Unity to Global Harmony: Over 300 Participants Join HWPL Peace Walk & Launch First 'Peace Lab' in Germany
Can the legacy of national reunification inspire a worldwide movement for peace?
On October 3, German Unity Day, the streets of Frankfurt echoed with messages of solidarity. Organized by HWPL Germany (HWPL Deutschland e.V.) alongside six civil society partners, the international peace walk brought together nearly 300 participants from over 20 nations under the theme "Many Nations – One Home."
Walking Through History: From Paulskirche to Willy-Brandt-Platz
The march kicked off at Paulskirche (St. Paul's Church), a historic landmark famous for housing the first freely elected German parliament in 1848.
In their opening remarks, HWPL representatives highlighted the historic significance of German reunification and stressed the indispensable role of citizens in bridging divides:
"Peace can be guaranteed politically and legally, but it is the people who live within it."
Clad in traditional attire and waving national flags, marchers chanted "We want peace!" and "We are one!" as local citizens cheered and joined the procession. The walk concluded at Willy-Brandt-Platz with poetry recitations, musical performances, and a collective flashmob.
Collaborative Action with 6 Civil Partners
The success of the event was made possible through strong civil partnership with six diverse organizations:
NRNA Germany (Non-Resident Nepali Association)
Haus der Begegnung (House of Encounter)
Frieden macht Schule (Peace Makes School)
Iranische Kinderhilfe Deutschland e.V. (Iranian Child Relief Germany)
Sonal Art
Shaolin Temple Marburg
Launching Germany's First 'Peace Lab'
Following the walk, HWPL hosted Germany's inaugural "Peace Lab" at its Frankfurt-Rödelheim office.
Around 40 attendees participated in practical workshops covering international law, interfaith dialogue, peace education, and youth empowerment. Participants explored actionable ways to sustain peace initiatives, with opportunities to enroll in a 6-week online training program to become certified Peace Ambassadors.
Through grassroots cultural engagement and civic education, HWPL continues to foster a sustainable culture of peace across Europe and beyond.
