Empowering European Youth: Romanian NGO 'Masterpiece' and IPYG Launch Quarterly Peace Working Group

Can cultural exchange serve as a catalyst for concrete international peacebuilding?

A youth delegation from the Romanian NGO Masterpiece visited South Korea (Seoul and Incheon) to deepen cultural ties and establish a structured peace partnership with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), an affiliate of HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light).

This in-person exchange built directly upon initial online meetings between the two youth organizations.

Exploring Culture and Mapping Peace Strategies

During the 5-day visit, the Romanian delegates experienced traditional Korean culture at Gyeongbokgung Palace and Insadong, followed by a joint cultural exchange session at Inha University.

Going beyond cultural appreciation, the delegates participated in intensive IPYG strategy workshops designed to establish localized peace initiatives in Romania. Key focus areas included:

  • Local Context Analysis: Evaluating Romanian media trends, public sentiment, and civil society perception regarding peace initiatives.

  • Government & Policy Mapping: Analyzing local governance structures to identify policy channels for youth peace advocacy.

  • Action Plan Development: Formulating actionable strategies to engage European youth in sustainable peacebuilding.

Launching Quarterly Youth Empowerment Peace Workshops (YEPW)

As a concrete output of the delegation's visit, IPYG and Masterpiece agreed to establish a recurring Youth Empowerment Peace Workshop (YEPW) model, scheduled to operate quarterly (4 times per year).

  • Bratu Catinca (Masterpiece Delegate):

"I look forward to taking the experiences gained in Korea back to Romania and working even harder together."

  • Alesia Marin (Masterpiece Delegate):

"I will share my experiences in Korea with my friends and colleagues, and I hope our organization continues to deepen its partnership with IPYG."

An HWPL representative emphasized that this initiative exemplifies voluntary, active youth participation across borders, serving as a model for global youth-led peace networks.
