IWPG Expands Government–Civil Society Cooperation with Jordan Ahead of UN CSW70

In early February 2026, International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 held an online meeting with representatives from key women’s and development institutions in Jordan. The discussion focused on potential cooperation for the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW70) and broader collaboration to strengthen women-led peace initiatives in the Middle East.

The meeting marked a notable step toward connecting civil society efforts with government-level engagement in preparation for an international policy platform.

Connecting Government, Civil Society, and International Platforms

The meeting was organized by IWPG Global Region 2 and included representatives from the Princess Taghrid Institute for Development and Training in Jordan. Among the participants were Secretary-General Aghadir Jwaihan, Director of International Cooperation and Project Director Ghazal Etoum, and Roa’a Mismar.

Discussions centered on how women’s voices can be more effectively reflected in international policy dialogue during UN CSW70. Participants emphasized that sustainable peacebuilding requires close coordination among governments, civil society organizations, and international institutions.

Rather than limiting cooperation to symbolic participation, both sides explored practical forms of engagement, including side events, policy dialogue sessions, and case-sharing platforms during CSW.

Toward Broader and Long-Term Cooperation

Beyond CSW70, the conversation extended to long-term collaboration between Korea and Jordan in the areas of women’s empowerment and peace promotion.

Jordanian representatives expressed interest in expanding cooperation through international forums and conferences, including a multinational forum scheduled for May 2027 in Morocco. Proposals for reciprocal visits and field-based exchanges were also discussed, signaling an intention to move beyond dialogue toward sustained partnership.

Importantly, the possibility of direct engagement with Jordan’s Ministry of Social Development was mentioned. While official government participation in CSW70 has not yet been finalized, Jordanian representatives indicated their willingness to facilitate communication with official delegations and relevant authorities regarding IWPG’s planned activities.

Strengthening Women’s Participation in Global Policy Spaces

Lee Seo-yeon, Director of IWPG Global Region 2, stated that the discussions helped clarify potential cooperation with Jordanian government and women’s institutions. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that women’s perspectives are meaningfully incorporated into international peace discourse and policy frameworks.

Jordanian representatives likewise highlighted that women’s organized participation and leadership are essential for effective governance and social stability. Both sides recognized that international civil society networks formed during CSW can serve as a foundation for future joint initiatives grounded in local realities.

Why This Matters

This dialogue reflects a broader trend in global peacebuilding: moving from isolated advocacy to structured cooperation that connects grassroots organizations, national governments, and international platforms such as the United Nations.

By strengthening communication channels with Jordanian institutions and exploring cooperation within the UN CSW framework, IWPG Global Region 2 is positioning women-led peace initiatives within a multi-level governance structure. Such an approach acknowledges that sustainable peace requires coordinated effort across policy, community, and international spheres.

As preparations for CSW70 continue, the outcome of these discussions may contribute to deeper engagement between Middle Eastern institutions and global women’s peace networks.
