IWPG Ulsan Branch Engages Citizens on the Need to End War and Strengthen International Law
On December 23, the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Ulsan Branch held a public awareness campaign in Seongnam-dong’s Youth Street, Jung-gu, Ulsan. The campaign focused on raising public understanding about the urgency of ending wars and the importance of establishing international legal frameworks to protect peace.
Bringing the Reality of War to the Public
The event was designed as a space for direct dialogue with citizens. Volunteers shared information on ongoing armed conflicts, including the Russia–Ukraine war and the Israel–Palestine (Gaza) conflict, as well as other prolonged regional disputes and civil wars.
Organizers emphasized that civilians—especially women and children—continue to bear the greatest burden of war. Through the campaign, IWPG highlighted the need for peaceful international order grounded in international law rather than violence or force.
시민의 목소리, 평화의 공감으로
Citizens who encountered the campaign shared personal reflections. One participant expressed that, as a parent, seeing children suffer in war was deeply painful and that no reason could ever justify war. She added that she hoped public campaigns like this could help unite people’s voices to prevent future conflicts.
Women’s Perspective on Peace
An IWPG Ulsan Branch representative explained that war never ends with true victory. Instead, those with no power to choose—ordinary citizens—suffer the most. She stressed that from a mother’s perspective, the pain of losing a child to war is something no words can heal.
The representative also emphasized that ending war is not an issue limited to governments or political groups, but a matter directly connected to the survival of humanity as a whole. As a women-led peace organization, IWPG continues to call for peace through civic awareness and international cooperation.
IWPG’s Global Peace Vision
IWPG is an international women’s NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC). Headquartered in South Korea, the organization works with 115 branches in 122 countries and more than 800 partner organizations across 68 countries.
With a vision of achieving sustainable world peace, IWPG carries out activities that promote solidarity, spread peace culture, provide women’s peace education, and advocate for the legalization of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
Through campaigns like the one held in Ulsan, IWPG continues to emphasize that peace begins with informed citizens and collective responsibility.
