Youth Unite for a Greener Future: IPYG Joins Mongolia’s Billion Trees Movement
Planting Hope, Growing Peace
The International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), an affiliate of HWPL, is bringing fresh energy to Mongolia’s ambitious Billion Trees National Campaign. Since 2023, young volunteers have been at the forefront of this nationwide reforestation effort, showing that caring for the environment and building peace go hand in hand.
From 2023 to 2025, IPYG’s Youth’s Unity – Green Gateway campaign has planted more than 8,000 trees across 21 provinces and 9 districts in Mongolia. With over 2,000 participants—including government agencies, NGOs, schools, and local citizens—the project has transformed barren areas into new green spaces. Notably, five “Peace Green Groves” have been established, symbolizing unity and sustainability.
Beyond Planting: Cultivating Responsibility
The campaign is more than just tree planting. It emphasizes nurturing and protecting the trees, while fostering long-term responsibility for environmental care. Volunteers receive tailored education and take part in hands-on activities that connect ecology with peacebuilding.
Through collaboration with Public Lab Mongolia, each planted tree is registered on an interactive digital map and monitored with satellite imagery. This innovative system ensures transparency and accountability, while encouraging continued community engagement.
Recognition from the Mongolian Government
In August 2025, the Mongolian Forest Agency awarded HWPL a Certificate of Appreciation, acknowledging the positive national impact of this project. The recognition reflects not only environmental progress but also the campaign’s contribution to peace and community well-being.
Youth Voices for Change
One IPYG representative explained, “Every tree is a seed of peace. By planting and protecting them, we are leaving a legacy of responsibility and unity for the next generation.”
The campaign also highlighted collaboration with 40 institutions and 47 households, creating greener and healthier community spaces. These efforts show how small actions—like planting a tree—can ripple outward to inspire hope and solidarity.
Looking Ahead
IPYG plans to continue its work during Mongolia’s nationwide spring and autumn tree-planting days, inviting broader participation from public institutions and citizens. The group’s goal is to expand green areas across the country while raising awareness about environmental protection as a foundation for peace.
With sustained effort, the Youth’s Unity – Green Gateway campaign is proving that youth can lead the way toward a sustainable and peaceful future.
