Youth Lead the Way: IWPG Hosts 7th International Peace Drawing Competition Awards in Tanzania

The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 recently held the award ceremony for the 7th International Peace Drawing Competition at the St. Dominic Savio Main Campus in Tanzania. The event brought together about 1,000 students and 30 teachers, creating a vibrant atmosphere where youth voices for peace were expressed through art.

Youth as Protagonists of Peace

Presiding over the ceremony, Associate Professor Mkanibwa Ngoboka of Ruaha Catholic University emphasized the deeper meaning of peace:

“Peace is not just a slogan—it must take root in your life and future. You are the protagonists of peace, and today is the time to plant that seed.”

His words highlighted the important role that young people play in shaping peaceful societies.


Winners of the Competition

The competition recognized outstanding works from both elementary and secondary students who used creativity to share their vision for harmony:

  • Secondary School Division

    • 1st Place: Martha Jonas Masingija (Kaggliero Girls’ Secondary School)

    • 2nd Place: Epiphania Emmanuel Mapunda (Kaggliero Girls’ Secondary School)

    • 3rd Place: Lulu Julius Mweji (Kaggliero Girls’ Secondary School)

  • Elementary School Division

    • 1st Place: Maureen Charles Mengo (St. Dominic Savio Primary School)

  • Special Award

    • Linda Bahati Mngashini (Kaggliero Girls’ Secondary School)

First-place winner Martha Jonas Masingija expressed her determination to live as a messenger of peace:

“In my drawing, I wanted to portray a world that chooses harmony instead of war. This award is a great honor, and I hope to continue spreading peace.”

Continuing the Mission of Peace Education

Through this event, IWPG reaffirmed its commitment to expanding peace values among youth worldwide. The organization plans to continue developing educational programs and international exchanges so that young people can carry the message of peace into their communities and beyond.
