Women Empowered Through Peace Education in Donghae–Samcheok

On August 25, the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Donghae–Samcheok Branch held its regular World Women’s Peace Network meeting (세평정) at the branch office, under the theme “Strengthening Women’s Rights through Peace Education.” The program featured a women’s peace education graduation ceremony and a special lecture on women’s rights.

Celebrating Women’s Growth

Two members—Ryu Su-bin and Jang Eun-hye—were recognized for completing the IWPG Women’s Peace Education course. Both are marriage-immigrant women who first connected with the branch through the 2024 multicultural awareness project “Wildflower Story (들꽃이야기).” Since then, they have continued learning and growing through peace education. Jang Eun-hye is now advancing into peace-lecturer training, receiving warm applause from attendees.

  • Ryu Su-bin shared, “Through this education, I was able to reflect on myself and grow.”

  • Jang Eun-hye said, “It was meaningful to grow not only personally but together with other women. I hope to convey the value of peace to more women through peace-lecturer training.”

Special Lecture: “Planting Seeds of Peace”

Park Nam-soon, former Vice Chair of the Donghae City Council, delivered a special lecture titled “Planting Seeds of Peace.” Addressing real-world challenges women face and their roles in society, she stressed the need to raise awareness of women’s rights, noting, “When women’s rights are guaranteed, peace can also be sustained.”

A Local Engine for Social Change

Branch Director Kim Sung-young highlighted the transformative power of IWPG’s curriculum: “Women’s peace education is not only about individual growth but also a driving force for social change. We hope this meeting becomes a stepping stone to strengthen the rights of local women—especially multicultural women—and to spread peace awareness.” She also expressed sincere thanks to the lecturer for her meaningful message despite a busy schedule.
