IWPG Signs MOU with Yemeni Media Organization
On August 25, the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 announced a groundbreaking partnership with Women’s Media for Peace, a Yemeni women-led media organization headquartered in Başakşehir, Istanbul. The two groups signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen international cooperation and produce peace-focused content led by women journalists.
Giving Voice to Women in Conflict Zones
Women’s Media for Peace, directed by Ikram Saad Al-Akori, is an independent feminist media platform bringing together over 100 women journalists. Through reporting on women’s rights, social justice, and peace, the organization plays a key role in shaping public discourse across the Middle East—a region where women’s voices have often been silenced by war and violence.
“This agreement is a milestone for women journalists,” said Director Al-Akori. “In the midst of conflict, women who were once forced into silence are now raising their voices through journalism. This partnership strengthens solidarity and supports freedom of the press.”
Building a Global Network for Peace Journalism
Under the MOU, IWPG and Women’s Media for Peace will:
-
Collaborate on reporting IWPG’s peace initiatives
-
Promote the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War)
-
Produce content for World Women’s Peace Day and women’s peace education
-
Share knowledge and build networks for women journalists worldwide
Lee Seo-yeon, Director of IWPG Global Region 2, emphasized the role of women in shaping a culture of peace:
“Women journalists are not only delivering information but also driving social change as true ‘messengers of peace.’ Together with Yemeni women journalists, we will spread the message of peace even further.”
Expanding the Horizon of Peace Media
Moving forward, both organizations will co-develop regular features on peace, jointly plan discussions that transcend conflict and discrimination, and highlight inspiring cases of women’s peace activities across borders.
This partnership stands as a powerful testament to the role of women in building peace—not only as witnesses of conflict but as active creators of change. By uniting voices across continents, IWPG and Yemeni women journalists are proving that peace is not just a vision but a story worth telling, again and again.
