IWPG Daegu Branch and Korean International Human Rights Association Sign MOU for Peace and Human Rights
On August 11, 2025, the Daegu Branch of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), led by Branch Director Park Su-jin, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Daegu–Gyeongbuk Headquarters of the Korean International Human Rights Association, headed by Chairman Hwang Hyun-ho.
The signing ceremony took place at the IWPG Daegu Branch office and marked a new chapter of formalized cooperation between the two organizations for the promotion of peace and the protection of human rights.
Building on a Year of Joint Initiatives
The partnership stems from a year of successful collaboration.
In March 2025, the two organizations co-hosted the “Walking Together for Human Rights and World Peace” exhibition at Beomeo Art Way in Beomeo Station, Daegu Subway Line 2. The event combined a photography display from the Korean International Human Rights Association’s campaigns with winning artworks from IWPG’s International Peace Drawing Competition, attracting strong interest from local citizens.
In November 2024, they also held a joint street campaign at Beomeo Intersection in Daegu’s Suseong District, engaging over 30 participants to raise public awareness on human rights issues.
Chairman Hwang reflected,
“We have discussed cooperation with many organizations before, but this is the first time we have signed an official MOU. Through more than a year of joint activities, I am convinced that our two organizations can create a complementary synergy.”
Expanding Cooperation for Peace and Human Rights
Under the new MOU, IWPG and the Korean International Human Rights Association will collaborate in a broad range of initiatives, including:
-
Hosting peace conferences, forums, seminars, and public campaigns
-
Joint activities to advance women’s rights and status worldwide
-
Supporting the enactment of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) as international law
-
Protecting the rights of the elderly, persons with disabilities, and migrant workers
-
Organizing exhibitions and street campaigns to promote human rights
-
Advocating for the rights of North Korean residents and defectors
-
Researching and proposing policy improvements to prevent human rights violations
Both sides also committed to leveraging their networks and expertise to spread the values of peace and human rights throughout the Daegu–Gyeongbuk region. This includes regular education programs, forums, and campaigns, as well as sharing resources and project plans to ensure consistent, effective action.
Strengthening Regional and Global Solidarity
Branch Director Park Su-jin expressed her vision for the partnership:
“This MOU allows us to further spread the shared values of peace and human rights in the Daegu–Gyeongbuk region. By combining our expertise and networks, we will carry out practical and innovative activities for the protection of human rights and the building of peace.”
IWPG is a global women’s peace organization that unites women worldwide to advocate for the cessation of war and the achievement of lasting peace.
The Korean International Human Rights Association is a public-interest legal body affiliated with a UN human rights agency, dedicated to defending and promoting human rights.
Through this partnership, both organizations aim to establish a sustainable model of collaboration—one that transforms regional cooperation into a force for global peace and human dignity.
