IWPG Busan East Branch Holds 7th Online Peace Education Completion Ceremony
On August 28, the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Busan East Branch celebrated the completion of its 7th Women’s Peace Education program with an online graduation ceremony. The event brought together participants from the Philippines, Uzbekistan, and South Korea, highlighting the global and inclusive nature of the initiative.
A Program Empowering Women as Peacebuilders
Running from August 17 to 26, the course carried the slogan “You Are the Woman Who Brings Peace.”
Around 30 women, including both local citizens and immigrant residents, took part in the 8-session program, which covered:
-
Peace and Me – exploring personal roles in building peace
-
War and Culture – reflecting on history and conflict
-
International Law and the DPCW – learning about the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)
-
The Role of Women – envisioning women’s leadership in peace initiatives
Beyond theory, participants engaged in group discussions, reflection activities, and writing peace pledge cards, fostering both knowledge and personal commitment.
Voices of the Graduates
During the ceremony, 15 participants received certificates of completion, sharing their reflections and future aspirations.
Su-jin, a student from Uzbekistan, expressed:
“This peace education broadened my perspective. From now on, I want to practice peace in my everyday life, starting with small actions.”
Her words captured the spirit of the program—peace not as a distant idea, but as something lived out in daily choices.
A New Starting Point, Not an End
Branch Director Jang Myeong-ok emphasized the ongoing journey of peace:
“Through this education, each woman would have realized that she is both the foundation and the link of peace. Today’s ceremony is not the end but the starting point of women walking together to widen the path of peace.”
The IWPG Busan East Branch affirmed its commitment to continue working with graduates on peace activities in the community, ensuring that the lessons learned extend beyond the classroom into real-life impact.
Building a Global Culture of Peace
The 7th Women’s Peace Education program once again demonstrated how IWPG empowers women across borders to take ownership of peace. By combining education, dialogue, and action, the initiative helps women recognize their potential as catalysts for positive change—locally and globally.
As IWPG often affirms: Peace begins when individuals decide to act. The graduates of this program are now prepared to walk that path, together.
