Planting the Seeds of Peace in Zambia: HWPL Installs Third DPCW Peace Signboard in Lusaka
From conflict-free to peace-forward — A youth-led movement takes root in Kalingalinga.
In a powerful step toward sustainable peace, HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) completed the third installation of a DPCW peace signboard in the Kalingalinga area of Lusaka, Zambia on June 30, 2025. This installation is part of HWPL’s ongoing “DPCW Zoning Project”, a visionary effort to establish designated peace zones around the world — starting at the heart of local communities.
Peace with a Purpose: Beyond Absence of War
While Zambia is often praised for its peaceful independence without armed conflict, HWPL and its local partners are now helping the nation go a step further — from simply no war to active peace. This means empowering citizens, especially youth, to create safe, inclusive, and hopeful communities grounded in the values of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
Backed by an official endorsement from the Lusaka city government, this third signboard in Kalingalinga is more than a structure — it is a visual and symbolic declaration: This is a community committed to peace.
Youth at the Center of Transformation
What made this installation especially meaningful was the leadership of youth from the Youth Engagement & Peacebuilding Working Group (YEPW), including students from the University of CURE Association for UN. These young changemakers didn’t just attend—they planned, promoted, and built the sign with their own hands.
“This sign will keep youth away from drugs and crime and move them toward healthy roles in society,” said Andrew Muima, YEPW member and student leader.
“It gives us confidence that peace is possible right here in our neighborhood,” added Charity Siamweme, a local youth representative.
From Crime Zones to Peace Zones
The Kalingalinga sign follows the earlier installations in Lumumba Street, a district once known for drug trafficking and crime. The peace signboard there sparked new hope, with local vendors saying, “Now we have something that reminds us to choose peace.”
The second installation at Lusaka Boys Secondary School marked a new chapter for peace education. The event drew officials from Zambia’s Ministry of Education, school principals, students, and faith leaders, and inspired students to proudly share peace messages on social media:
“Our school stands for peace.”
A Bigger Vision: “Zero-Crime Lusaka” and Beyond
HWPL Zambia is now working toward establishing 10 peace zones throughout Lusaka, launching a campaign called “Crime-Free Lusaka.” The project aims not only to reduce crime, but also to address issues such as youth unemployment, gender-based violence, disease, and malnutrition, showing that peace is holistic and practical.
“This isn’t just about installing signs,” shared an HWPL Zambia representative.
“It’s about building systems that support peace—through education, employment, public health, and more.”
Toward National Change: A Ministry of Peace?
Looking forward, HWPL Zambia is exploring long-term frameworks for integrating peace into governance itself — including the idea of establishing a “Ministry of Peace.” With the DPCW at its core, this movement seeks to lay a legal and cultural foundation for a new era of peace, justice, and community responsibility.
A Sign that Speaks Louder than Words
As the people of Kalingalinga posed for a photo in front of the new sign, voices rang out together:
🕊️ “We are a Peace Forward City.”
These signboards are more than metal and paint — they’re declarations of intent, milestones of change, and seeds of a better tomorrow.
May their message continue to spread — not only across Zambia, but across the world.
