HWPL's Humanitarian Support for Ukrainian Refugees in the Czech Republic: A Gala of Hope and Healing
Even in a world overshadowed by conflict, a light continues to shine through the actions of global peace NGO HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), led by Chairman Man Hee Lee. With its international network of peace advocates across politics, law, religion, education, media, women, and youth, HWPL is taking real steps toward a more peaceful future—most notably through the promotion of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), a proposed legal framework for ending war worldwide.
One inspiring example of HWPL’s work unfolded in the Czech Republic, where compassion took center stage in support of Ukrainian refugees still reeling from the ongoing war.
🎗️ A Gala for a Cause: Comforting Hearts Through Culture
On January 12, 2023, the HWPL Czech branch teamed up with the local humanitarian group Dom Dobra to host a special event titled "Gala Night for Ukrainian Refugee Children."
The aim? To raise both awareness and funds to support the many Ukrainian families, especially children, who have been forced to flee their homes and rebuild their lives in a foreign land. The event was more than just a fundraiser—it was a celebration of resilience, a space of emotional healing, and a powerful symbol of unity.
💬 Why the Czech Republic?
As one of the top three host countries for Ukrainian refugees in Europe, the Czech Republic has taken in thousands of displaced families. While government and NGO support has been vital, long-term challenges remain—from psychological trauma and cultural barriers to the lack of educational support for children.
HWPL stepped in to fill some of these gaps, creating a moment of joy, warmth, and connection between local citizens and the refugee community.
🎨 Art, Music, and Peace in Action
The gala featured powerful performances under the themes of “Evil,” “A Warm Touch,” and “Freedom.” Performers included Ukrainian dance and music groups, IPYG (International Peace Youth Group) volunteers, and young local artists. Notably, traditional music played on the bandura (a Ukrainian folk instrument) and Senegalese songs added cultural richness and emotional depth to the evening.
An art auction was also held, showcasing and selling 11 pieces by Ukrainian artists. Proceeds from the auction were directed toward educational and emotional support programs for refugee children—many of whom are suffering from war-induced trauma.
🕊️ A Community That Gave From the Heart
Around 150 attendees—including Czech citizens and Ukrainian refugees—participated in the gala. Many shared their heartfelt appreciation for HWPL’s efforts and contributed donations.
The raised funds will support Dom Dobra’s educational and social integration programs for refugee children, helping them process trauma and adjust to their new environment. Given Dom Dobra’s record of assisting over 1,000 refugees in 2023 alone, the support from this event is expected to reach many more in need.
HWPL and Dom Dobra have committed to continued collaboration, aiming to launch more programs that strengthen the social fabric and integration of refugees in Czech society.
🌏 Extending Peace Across Borders: IPYG's Efforts in Australia and the Middle East
🇦🇺 Brisbane, Australia: Serving with Compassion
In December 2023, IPYG’s Australian branch partnered with Brisbane’s “Community Friends” to serve food and distribute clothing to those in need, including the homeless and socially marginalized.
IPYG’s focus was not only on service but also on promoting a culture of peace—creating space for connection, conversation, and understanding among a diverse population.
“We’re committed to continuing community service in cooperation with local organizations to spread peace to every corner of society,” shared an IPYG representative.
🇮🇶 Jasoor Youth Organization: Amplifying Youth Voices in Iraq
The Jasoor Youth Organization, an IPYG affiliate in southern Iraq, has been actively engaging young people in peacebuilding, anti-violence campaigns, and social justice work.
Under the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 2250, which highlights youth participation in peace and security, Jasoor’s youth are shaping a new narrative for their communities.
Program Manager Yasmin Watani emphasized,
“For youth, peace means more than the absence of war. It’s about justice, dignity, and the right to be heard in a free society.”
🇪🇹 Positive Peace Ethiopia: Leading with Hope and Action
In Ethiopia, the youth group Positive Peace Ethiopia, another IPYG partner, is working on disarmament, peace education, and human rights advocacy. The group recently joined HWPL’s blood donation campaign to raise awareness and encourage participation in a country where less than 1% of the population donates blood.
Co-founder Chalachew Worku spoke with passion:
“Let’s break boundaries, open dialogue, and use our collective strength to build a peaceful, united, and hopeful world.”
🌿 The Power of “We Are One”
HWPL and its global network of youth and peace organizations are turning the message “We Are One” into meaningful action—whether it’s through art, music, education, service, or legislation.
In a time when headlines are dominated by division and despair, these grassroots efforts are proving that peace is not only possible—it’s already happening, one community at a time.
