Global Efforts for Peace: Refugee Support, Legislative Advocacy, and Human Rights Dialogue with HWPL
From refugee support in the United States to peace policy discussions in Africa, and a global seminar on wartime human rights—Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), under the leadership of Chairman Man Hee Lee, continues to advance its mission of building a peaceful world.
Compassion in Action: Supporting Refugees in Georgia, USA
On December 1, 2023, HWPL’s Georgia branch in the U.S. hosted a year-end gala to commemorate World Volunteer Day. With 87 attendees gathered in Clarkston, Georgia—often called “the most diverse square mile in America”—the event raised $3,500 in scholarships for refugee children.
Since 2022, the Georgia branch has led peace campaigns providing essential supplies to over 200 refugee families. These campaigns have collected:
-
Over 1,700 pieces of clothing
-
10,658 hygiene items
-
1,458 school supplies
-
1,016 food products
A deeply moving moment of the event was the screening of HWPL’s original refugee documentary “Because of War.” The powerful stories shared brought many to tears. A state representative even suggested the documentary be screened at the Georgia State Capitol, amplifying its message on a broader scale.
Representative Segun Adeyina praised HWPL’s dedication to peace, saying:
🗣 “Your mission of peace resonates with the core values that we uphold. If we work together, we can create a stronger, more harmonious future for all.”
Legislative Momentum: Malawi Parliamentarians Back the DPCW
On November 22, 2023, a peace policy meeting in Lilongwe, Malawi, brought together national lawmakers to explore the value of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW). The event, hosted by HWPL, inspired six parliamentarians to sign official letters of support for the DPCW and establish a working group to integrate peace principles into national policy.
Among those who took part were Deputy Speaker Axon Carlisle Banda and MP Ebrahim Abel Kazembe. Although Malawi has not faced recent war, it continues to confront deep-rooted social issues such as gender-based violence and economic challenges. The DPCW offers a holistic and proactive framework for addressing these concerns through peace-based legislation.
This engagement signals a growing awareness among political leaders that true peace requires more than the absence of conflict—it demands justice, equity, and community involvement.
A Global Conversation: Online Seminar on Human Rights in War
On November 26, 2023, HWPL hosted an international online seminar titled:
💬 “What Must Be Done for the Protection of Human Rights in Wartime?”
Panelists from Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia—countries with histories of internal conflict—shared their experiences and ideas for protecting civilians during times of war.
Key highlights included:
-
Hamiru Harry Massaquoi (Presidential Office, Sierra Leone) urging immediate measures to safeguard citizens caught in political conflict.
-
Mamadou Lamin Kah (Ministry of Basic Education, The Gambia) highlighting the trauma and social impacts of war, particularly on children and women.
-
Justice Neil Iddawala (Supreme Court of Sri Lanka) calling for the establishment of a legally binding international law for peace, inspired by the DPCW.
The speakers unanimously agreed: a new paradigm of global cooperation and enforceable peace law is essential to protect human rights and prevent future atrocities.
Peace Through People—Local Actions, Global Impact
Whether it's helping a refugee family in Georgia, crafting policy in an African parliament, or holding seminars that unite international leaders—HWPL is showing the world what peace in action truly looks like.
Each step is part of a larger, citizen-led movement inspired by the DPCW and Chairman Man Hee Lee’s vision of a war-free world. The message is clear: peace isn’t just a dream—it’s a plan, and we are all invited to be part of it.
We are one. Let’s continue building peace together—one heart, one voice, one action at a time.
