HWPL’s Peace Journalism Workshop: Empowering Global Media for Peace

In a world where media can amplify conflicts or pave the way for peace, the role of journalists is critical. The global peace organization HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light), led by Chairman Man Hee Lee, recognizes this and has been working to guide journalists toward promoting peace. HWPL’s efforts include fostering international dialogue, providing tools for peace journalism, and hosting global workshops to empower journalists to contribute to lasting peace.

Global Media Unites for Peace

On February 18, 2023, HWPL hosted the 1st Peace Journalism International Media Workshop online, gathering 150 participants from 30 countries. Themed “The Road to Institutional Peace for Sustainable Development,” the event aimed to strengthen the role of media in peacebuilding. Supported by 28 global media organizations, the workshop also celebrated the launch of Peace Journalism Studies, a collaborative publication that explores the media's role in promoting peace.

Voices from the Workshop

During the event, global media leaders shared insights and emphasized the responsibility of journalists in advocating for peace:

  • Salim Khan from India’s News & Views Network urged journalists to spread messages of love and justice, stating that “media can ignite peacebuilding through awareness and dialogue.”

  • Robert Maseka, founder of Namibia’s Rob Youth Foundation, highlighted the need for global media networks to promote democracy and human rights.

  • Igor Sevryukov, a journalist and HWPL Peace Ambassador from Ukraine, stressed that peace education and culture are as vital as institutional frameworks for sustainable peace, aligning with HWPL’s Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).

HWPL’s Global Media Collaboration

HWPL’s peace initiatives have inspired journalists worldwide, including figures like Nabil Tirmizi from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (AIBD). He remarked, “HWPL is leading a moral approach from the grassroots level to foster global peace. I believe they will succeed.”

Media professionals from conflict-affected nations also expressed their admiration for HWPL’s leadership. Myanmar’s Khasar Mon, editor of Mon News Agency, emphasized the urgency of peace in conflict zones and shared his commitment to HWPL’s initiatives.

Bangladeshi journalist Ibnull Kayyum Soni praised Chairman Lee’s leadership, especially his message, “We are one,” as a succinct yet profound expression of equality and harmony.

Why Peace Journalism Matters

As global conflicts persist, the media’s role in fostering understanding, empathy, and cooperation is more crucial than ever. HWPL’s peace journalism workshops underscore the importance of aligning media narratives with peace-oriented goals. Through education, collaboration, and empowerment, HWPL equips journalists to become ambassadors of peace, inspiring global change.

Let us support HWPL’s mission and the journalists worldwide working to build a culture of peace.
