HWPL Peace Education: Building a Culture of Peace in Aruba

On the serene Caribbean island of Aruba, HWPL’s Peace Education is shaping young minds and fostering a brighter future. At the forefront of this transformative journey is Jeanette Tamayo, a peace educator at EduCampus, who believes that peace education is essential for creating a better world.

Nurturing Kindness and Respect

Jeanette first encountered HWPL’s Peace Education in January 2024, where she learned the value of fostering peace, starting from home. Since then, she has integrated the HWPL curriculum into her classes, teaching middle school students how to practice kindness, respect, and teamwork.

Through engaging lessons and hands-on activities, her students explore simple yet impactful actions, such as writing kind notes to brighten someone’s day. These experiences allow them to internalize the values of peace and apply them in their daily lives.

Transforming Students and Educators

The effects of peace education extend beyond the classroom. Jeanette shared that teaching these lessons has transformed her perspective, making her more empathetic and appreciative of the people and environment around her.

“I realized the importance of inspiring others to become individuals who contribute to peace,” she reflected. “This transformation starts with me and extends to the students I teach.”

A Catalyst for Social Change

EduCampus, established in 2020, is an innovative institution that blends traditional and modern teaching methods to prepare students for the 21st century. By incorporating HWPL’s Peace Education, the school is not only fostering personal growth but also contributing to societal progress.

Jeanette has witnessed students improve their teamwork and conflict resolution skills, becoming ambassadors of peace within their communities. These changes demonstrate the real-world impact of peace education, proving it to be a practical tool for building a harmonious society.

Inspiring a Peaceful Future

Looking ahead, Jeanette and her team at EduCampus aim to continue practicing and teaching peace, love, and kindness. “Students are the future, and teaching them conflict resolution and peaceful coexistence skills is essential,” she explained.

By nurturing these values, EduCampus is planting seeds of peace that will grow across generations, ensuring a legacy of harmony for Aruba and beyond.

Join the Movement

Jeanette’s work at EduCampus highlights the transformative power of peace education. It’s a reminder that creating a better world starts with teaching the next generation to live harmoniously.

Support HWPL’s mission and help spread the culture of peace worldwide. Together, we can build a brighter, more peaceful future.
