HWPL Peace Education – Inspiring Change in Cyprus

In Cyprus, HWPL’s Peace Education is empowering students and reshaping communities through its transformative curriculum. For university student Soulla Swarai, this journey has been nothing short of life-changing.

A Journey into Peace

Soulla first encountered HWPL’s Peace Education in 2022 through the Erasmus Mobility Program, where she was introduced to the HWPL peace curriculum. Deeply moved, she completed the Peace Teacher Training program in 2023 and began teaching online classes to international groups from France, Germany, Cyprus, Nigeria, and Poland.

“Peace education isn’t just about teaching concepts,” Soulla shared. “It’s about engaging with people and witnessing their perspectives change. That’s the most rewarding part.”

Transforming Lives Through Education

Over two years of teaching, Soulla has observed remarkable changes in her students. Many have developed skills in conflict resolution and empathy, applying these values to their campuses and communities. “Seeing students embrace the importance of peace and spread it within their environments has been a profoundly satisfying experience,” she said.

HWPL’s curriculum equips learners with tools to address cultural tensions and promote mutual respect. Soulla believes it’s more than just education—it’s a way to build harmony in increasingly diverse societies.

Expanding Peace Education

Looking ahead, Soulla plans to blend in-person and online workshops to broaden the reach of peace education. She also hopes to collaborate with organizations like UNICEF and the UN to incorporate peace education into community policies.

Her vision includes using the program to bridge cultural divides and foster mutual understanding, demonstrating that peace isn’t a distant ideal but an achievable goal we can all contribute to.
