Promoting Peace Through Education: HWPL's Impact in Nepal
In a world where the aspiration for peace is universal,
education often falls short in incorporating peace into the regular curriculum.
Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) is actively working
to change this narrative. With a mission to nurture the next generation as
ambassadors of peace, HWPL is making significant efforts in promoting peace
education worldwide. Nepal, a country where diverse ethnic groups and religions
coexist, is one of country actively participating in HWPL’s Peace education.

Nepal and its Peace Education
Nepal, a nation
of approximately 30 million people, has embraced HWPL's peace education
initiatives, gradually making its mark in the field of peace education. Ms. Viva Kalika Mela Shrestha, Vice Principal of the Asphodel
Public School in Nepal, echoes this sentiment by saying that “Students are the
stars of the future. If we teach them a peaceful mindset, they will lead peaceful lives. If everyone is
peaceful, society will be peaceful.” Shrestha further
emphasizes the importance of instilling peaceful values in students, believing
that a peaceful society contributes to a peaceful world.

Efforts to Teach Peace in Schools and other Educational field in Nepal
Ms. Shrestha
encourages students to share what they learn at school with their families,
contributing to a peaceful household and society. This aligns with HWPL's
vision of fostering a sense of global citizenship and promoting peace beyond
the classroom. Beyond formal education, HWPL has established Memoranda of
Understanding (MOUs) with 18 educational institutions in Nepal, with plans to
expand this collaboration to 23 institutions this year. The commitment is
evident through the training of 28 teachers in HWPL's official peace education
program, along with the appointment of Peace Ambassador to promote and
encourage participation in peace-related activities.

Tailoring Peace Education for Nepal
While peace stands as a universal goal for humanity, the means to achieve it may vary from country to country. This diversity stems from the different approaches to peace influenced by the unique histories and cultures of each nation. In Nepal, there is an active and robust initiative to localize HWPL's Peace Education. As a part of this effort, Nepal has been involved in producing localized textbooks or educational videos that reflects its history and culture. As of 2023, Nepal successfully completed the production of educational videos for HWPL's Peace Education curriculum sections 1 to 5 and in progress of creating the content for section 6.
