Why Do We Need Conversation? Changing Misunderstanding to Understanding

One of work of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) is Alliance of Religion. It is wisdom from Chairman Manhee Lee to realize peace on Earth. Alliance of Religion is very important in realizing true peace on Earth.

Recently, I had a bit of out of ordinary talk with my colleague. She asked me to have a conversation so we went to a private room. I was a bit nervous because I had a gut that she is going to say something serious. She started the conversation by asking me “are you looking down on me?” I was more than surprised because for so long, I thought that she was the one who ignores me. Ever since she joined our team, she never says “good morning” back to me. She always avoided my eye contacts and seems like she did not like me. Having to do my work, I tried to accept that as her personality. Thus, it was more than a surprise to hear her saying that she had a feeling that I am looking down on her. After listening to her, I realized that we had misunderstanding. It was not someone’s fault but literally just misunderstanding and miscommunication.

I heard that most of wars around the world are due to religious conflict. Religious groups aim for values of the heaven or spiritual realm. Then why do religious fight with each other and go through devastating war?  The conversation I had with my colleague let me further thought about wars between religious groups.

There are many different religions around the World. Each group’s value and belief may differ but we are all one in a way that we believe in a “holy being.” The name for this “holy being” may differ from religion to religion but essentially it is the same being – God. Having said that, the reason why I think religious groups have conflict with each other is because of misunderstanding. My colleague and I had had enormous misconception about each other even though none of us meant to do that. We untied the knot of misunderstanding by having a conversation which made misunderstanding to understanding. Just like this experience of mine, I believe that it is very important that religious groups do have regular conversation with one another to understand each other.

World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) office is place for religious leaders of various faiths to regularly have a meeting to discuss about their scriptures. The goals of these meetings are to foster better understanding of one another in order to make harmony and collaboration among religious groups. What I experienced recently with my colleague let me realize that the work of WARP is so important to let different religious groups to have open mind to one another and truly understand each other and realize religious harmony!

  1. A beautiful, hopeful and somewhat miraculous post. How is that HWPL Chairman Man-hee Lee, who was in his mid-80s at that time, could mediate a cruel, bloody 40-year inter-religious conflict between Catholic and Islamic groups that had claimed 120,000 lives on the island of Mindanao - which no government agency or peacekeeping force could solve - yet so few media organisations report it? Thank YOU for reporting this news of peace. I hope more media outlets will do the same and I will certainly do my part in spreading this news. I have watched the screening of the ‘Great Legacy’ film documentary here in the UK, and it was phenomenal.
