2019 World Peace Summit: 5th Anniversary of the WARP Summit
With HWPL, I have learned the true meaning of
World Peace and the importance of it.
Where should I start? It all began with my
first encounter with HWPL in the year of 2014, the first Anniversary of DPCW. I
will never forget the day I attended the festival in September 18th,
2014.
Five years ago, I was preparing for University
entrance exam. Being raised in an International cultural background, I was
naturally interested in world politics and the international economy more than
any other kids of my age. My goal was to ‘bring peace’ to the world. I took this
goal very seriously and I even took part in debates related with international
politics and environment protection to build my way up the social ladder and
become a politician.
However, the more I debated, the more I struggled
with a harsh reality; That true world peace can never be achieved. The nations
will continue to make choices that would only benefit themselves even if it
means putting other countries in danger of war and poverty.
How HWPL changed my perspective on World Peace and Politics
When I almost gave up my dream of achieving
world peace, I met HWPL. HWPL was nothing like the other organizations
I had encountered. The members of HWPL, IPYG and IWPG had only one goal in
their mind: Let’s make World Peace happen!
Not only that, Chairman Lee had a firm plan
on how to make it happen: DPCW.
As a result, the world's greatest peace Summit where 2 hundred thousand people attended was held in South Korea. Although Chairman Lee's work for peace had begun long before this Summit, it is considered the first huge step taken that pulled world peace even closer.
About the Chairman of HWPL, Man Hee Lee
Chairman Lee himself is also a survivor of war. He served as a veteran during the Korean War. He had to watch his comrades fall helplessly in front of the firing bullets like rain. Having experienced the agony and terror of war, he promised to dedicate his life in making world peace possible. Ever since then, he established HWPL and had been around the world 31 times to meet the government officials, world leaders and religious leaders all in attempt to convince them to be the first to work with HWPL for world peace.
In 2013, he declared DPCW, ’The Declaration
of Peace and The Cessation of War’. Briefly put, DPCW is an yet-to-be international law that may be the key to solving world conflict. Read more about DPCW: http://www.hwpl.kr/en/initiative/lawForPeace
Currently, DPCW is being supported by
millions of citizens around the world to be turned into a legally binding form.
What's happening on September 18th to 20th, 2019
Through the last year’s Summit that convened with the theme of Collaboration for Peace Development: Building a Peace Community through the DPCW in 2018, the following topics were discussed: 1) Plans of action to support the DPCW to be introduced as UN resolution as a national and regional level; 2) Plans of action to establish and expand peace networks with various fields in the core including politics, religion, education, media, youth, women, etc. With the youths’ Peace Letter activities that urged for a peaceful unification on the Korean Peninsula in 2018, the Peace Letter campaign expanded during March to May in 2019 for the citizens and leaders from around the world in various sectors to urge support for the DPCW. As a result of this campaign, peace letters were written and sent to the heads of state from 192 countries.
With millions of letters sent to the leaders of the world, more people are being aware of the importance of world peace and why DPCW and other works of HWPL such as the Peace Education is the key to achieve it. The hand-written letters are now being replied by the nations' leaders! The Peace education is also rapidly spreading globally, boosting the world peace. Other orgnanizations sharing the same value as HWPL are also eager to sign MOU or MOA to join the work of peace.
However, there is just yet to go. With
DPCW, HWPL aims to establish it into a legally recognized International law in
hope to put an end to war for good.
With your participation, we can together make world peace happen.
Let us be the messengers of Peace!
