Syria need peace,
I can’t wait for Syria to return to what it was and we go to live and laugh there like we used to. That’s all I want. I would eat dirt if it would bring me back to Syria. If only…”
The expanding crisis in the Middle East and North Africa has led to a rapid surge in refugees and migrants seeking sanctuary for their families. UNICEF is urgently appealing for funds to help Syrian children and their families, as well as all other families caught up in the current wave of humanitarian crises. Any excess funds from this appeal will support children affected by major emergencies throughout the world.
With the conflict in Syria now entering its fifth year, more children are displaced as refugess than at any time since the Second World War. Millions have been displaced and are on the move, fleeing their homes to find safety in the surrounding region. Many others are trying to rebuild their lives in refugee camps in neighbouring countries. And for Syria’s youngest children, poverty, displacement and violence are all they have ever known.
Many are in grave danger without basic needs like safe shelter, nutrition, access to clean water, healthcare, and education.
More than 2 million children and their families have taken refuge outside Syria in neighbouring countries including Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Egypt. And thousands more children - from Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere are also terribly affected.
Children have had limited or no access to education or healthcare for months and even years, and UNICEF is appealing for support to reach as many children as we can, wherever we are needed most, as qcuickly as possible. For too many children, time is simply running out.
